I appreciate a good joke and I find humor in eating disorders.
Even if it’s not recoveritically-correct.
Why did the anorexic try and snort Splenda?
She thought it was Diet Coke.
That’s pretty funny! Sorry I’m not sorry.
I mean, if we’re not laughing we’re crying right?

If I can’t laugh at myself in all my insanity, I’ll go insaner.
I’ll start inventing words or start a blog. Oh wait…
Anyways, as I’ve written before:
“Recovery from an eating disorder is no joke. It is painful, difficult, and complicated. But….sigh. If I can’t laugh in the middle of all this mess I will go insane.”
But sometimes these jokes give me a fugly feeling. It unsettles me.
Hits a bit too close to home.
The jokes can trivialize the gravity of the disease. That’s dangerous.
Anorexia, Bulimia, BED, and COE destroy lives.
People die. Or wish they would.
When the disease is portrayed as a weight-loss method for shallow, selfish women I take offense.
Because it makes ME feel trivial, selfish, and shallow.
But just for a second.
Then I get angry.
Because that joke’s not funny anymore.
- How do you feel about the eating disorder humor we see in society?
