Caterpillar Eats:
Taking Pictures of Food I Eat & Sharing them on the Internet
(In a ridiculous fashion)
This is not a food blog. It’s not a “recovery blog.” It’s just my blog. I’m trying to recover from an eating disorder and I eat food. Actually, I love food. So, it comes up.
Eating disorders aren’t really about food – but they’re not NOT about food.
As I attempt to recover I have to RE-LEARN how to feed myself.
For 10 years my diet consisted of lettuce, veggie burgers and that’s pretty much it. Prior to that were 9+ years of severely disordered eating. The first couple weeks on a meal plan I recall physically shaking as I ate lunch, the way utensils felt so awkward in my hands, and having no idea what to actually eat. My first visit to the grocery store took hours.Suddenly, I had to incorporate all kinds of forgotten food like starches, fats, and grains – and simultaneously fight the madness in my head telling me not to.
It’s been a long journey since then; I’ve loved every single step. The journey to re-learn how to feed myself and develop a healthy respect for food has been a blessing but my journey is very far from over.
I still have LONG LONG ways to go. Did I mention LONG? Because…yeah. But… it is what it is and it’s just a blog…My blog. Not a “recovery blog.“
I share “Things I Ate Along the Way” (<–find them here)and periodic collections of food pics “Caterpillar Eats“(<–found here) and “Recipes.”
It’s not pretty. Sometimes it’s darn right ugly. Need Proof? But it tastes good to me!
Capturing and sharing these photos are part of developing my respect for food (you take pics of friends you respect, right?) and holding myself accountable to mix things up, experiment, try new foods. I tend to get stuck in a rut. More like a trench, actually. So it’s for me. But I think I have some good ideas! We all gotta eat!
My diet is plant based, mostly vegan but I love seafood. I dislike labels. My meals and snacks are SIMPLE, QUICK, AFFORDABLE, and ACCESSIBLE. No long lists of ingredients or lengthy prep or cooking times. Being a single lady, the meals are built for one.
Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor. If you were under the impression I was, you may need to consult one of your own (0: Clearly I am a lunatic who’s not a role model of health. I will never post all the food I eat in a day. I will never mention amounts of food, and most often only part of a meal or snack will be shown. That would be too boring, too insane, and seems really unhealthy for me. I am not recovered – I am in recovery. I wouldn’t call myself a healthy eater – but I enjoy to eat healthily.
And that’s what’s up with the food pics.
And why I post them on the internet.
In a ridiculous fashion.
